great results for Rudy Project athletes at Giro d‘Italia 2007

GREAT RESULTS FOR RUDY PROJECT ATHLETES AT GIRO D‘ITALIA 2007The 2007 Giro d‘Italia has come and gone with an excellent result for Rudy Project, the worldwide leader in sports eyewear. The Italian company was the official supplier of eyewear and helmets for over a quarter of the cyclists competing in the ninetieth edition of the race, including riders such as Gilberto Simoni, the new sensation Riccardo Riccò of Saunier Duval, Michael Rasmussen of Rabobank and Mikhail Ignatiev of the Tinkoff team.

In figures, Rudy Project supplied 60 of the 197 athletes in the Giro, 43 of whom finished the gruelling race. They included 3 stage winners in the Saunier Duval team: Leonardo Piepoli, who headed a breakaway group in the Lido di Camaiore- Santa Signora della Guardia stage, Riccardo Riccò, who won the testing mountain stage at Tre Cime di Lavaredo, and Gilberto Simoni who won the toughest mountain stage of the ninetieth Giro at Zoncolan (one of the steepest climbs in all of Europe). Piepoli won the green jersey for the best mountain climber while Rudy Project earned first place in the final overall team classification with the Saunier Duval team.

«The three stage wins by Rudy Project riders were particularly convincing –says Simone Barbazza, Marketing Director of the Veneto company - We were impressed with the public who followed the Giro with undiminished interest and enthusiasm, despite further rumblings about doping. It is an important sign and encourages us to continue investing in cycling and promoting untainted sport.».

For the 21st stage of the 90th Giro the athletes chose the brand new model Sportmask Performance. Streamlined eyewear, with an aggressive look, Sportmask Performance has a front spacer to improve air circulation and prevent the lenses from fogging. Sportmask Performance has striking wrap-around lenses and racing style side logos. Comfort is guaranteed by the extremely lightweight and soft silicone nose-piece.
